Mina Webinar Review
We found MINA while we were studying the blockchain. We felt a lot of interest in MINA since we thought it will give an innovative vision to solve some problems in blockchain. So, in order to promote the MINA to other people and extend MINA community, we planned to open a webinar
Opening a webinar was tougher than we thought. But we prepared with all our resources and made an organized schedule to make things go well. We continuously contacted with Mina team, and this made our project more organized. Also, in order to make our webinar as a cooperation of YBL and Mina, we invited Brandon - the chief engineer of Mina team - at our AMA(Ask Me Anything) session.
The most important problem while actually holding the webinar was a network issue. It was getting worse when we showed ppt slides, and also when the number of participants in our webinar increased. Our main audience were mostly korean, so we prepared our ppt in the following language. The problem was that some foreigners who were not used to korean complained about their difficulty of understanding it. And also, Although the webinar was scheduled to begin at 7pm, only 20% of audiences were present on time. So we had to postpone 5 more minutes to start the webinar, waiting for other audiences. Another problem arose in promoting the webinar. SNS was certainly a useful way, but it worked only for our sns followers. Also many people in korea wouldn’t participate in the webinar if it was promoted only in sns, because it seemed that it had lack of professionalism for them.
Network is a significant feature that must be working well on webinar. It is necessary to check whether network works properly, and prepare the right place for better network performing in advance. Also, you should choose a platform that fits with your webinar contents and purposes. As people in many countries could be audience in a webinar, it will be better if you make presentations in English as well as your mother tongue. Presenting slides could attract visual attention of audiences so that they won’t leave the webinar and keep their attention. To begin the webinar on designated time, you should ask audiences to participate 5minutes early, so that there’s no audience waiting for others. Using media is the most efficient way to promote the webinar. you can use reliability of media and persuade others to participate the webinar more easily. But don’t forget you also have to put some effort into SNS. you should take all resources available to promote the webinar.
Our advertising strategy mostly depended on SNS uploads, posters and simple attracting phrases that could effectively describe advantages of MINA protocol. Posters were made from design samples from o(1) labs that we got from discord channel. We uploaded posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter every week starting 2 weeks before our webinar date. And posted everyday when only one week was left until the webinar.
We have opened our webinar with platform called ‘Airmeet’, gathering nearly 40 people during our presentation. The groups that participated on our webinar included Ewhachain; university student blockchain club from Ewha University, Sogang Graduate School of Information and Communication, DSRV Labs; blockchain validator and infrastructure provide company, Xangle; global crypto disclosure platform, Zero-Knowledge Seoul; zero-knowledge proof research group and nonce; blockchain co-working&living community.
The highest concurrent users reached 40 people, which was larger than we expected since this was first time YBL actually opened up the webinar. You could think that average number of the audience during the webinar was not much, but we think this was actually quite a success regarding the difficulty on lack of resources that we had and learned the point that we can improve the quality and method of future webinar we will open up. We root for your effort on trying to open a webinar successfully, hoping that this review about what we have done to be helpful for you.
